Our History
Over twenty-five years ago Merrill Ottwein and his son Paul introduced a new kind of company to the Metro East real estate market hoping to challenge the conventional process of the real estate industry. Instead of dividing their loyalties between sellers and buyers, the Ottweins would put all of their energy and experience into just one area…assisting buyers. The result was Home Buyers AdvantEdge Realty, one of the most unique and respected real estate agencies in the metro east. Since its founding in 1991 Home Buyers AdvantEdge Realty has helped over 3,000 clients purchase homes in the most desirable locations in Southwestern Illinois.

Paul Ottwein, Managing Broker
Paul Ottwein is an Edwardsville, Illinois native with over 30 years of experience in real estate. He is the former co-owner of Century 21 and Coldwell Banker in Edwardsville. Paul and his father, Merrill Ottwein started Home Buyers AdvantEDGE Realty in 1991 with the goal of representing buyers exclusively in the home buying process.
Paul is a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Illinois Association of Realtors, the Greater Gateway Board of Realtors, the National Association of Exclusive Buyer’s Agents (NAEBA) and THE GlenEd Chamber of Commerce. Paul holds an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) degree from the Real Estate Buyers Agency Council (REBAC).
Paul lives in Edwardsville, Illinois with his wife, Amber. Together they have four children and one grandson. He is an avid collector of local artifacts and war memorabilia, and is a loyal fan of all St. Louis sports teams.
